Overview
Next-generation power for the Airbus H225 and H225M
The Safran Makila 2A1 represents the next evolution of the renowned Makila engine family, developed specifically for the Airbus H225 and H225M. Building on the proven reliability of the Makila 1 series, the Makila 2A1 delivers significantly higher power, advanced engine management and improved operational capability for today's demanding heavy helicopter missions.
Providing 2,101 shp take-off power, the Makila 2A1 offers approximately 14% more power than the Makila 1A series. This increased performance allows operators to carry higher payloads, improve hover capability and operate more effectively in hot-and-high environments while maintaining excellent operational efficiency.
Designed for the latest generation of Super Puma helicopters, the Makila 2A1 combines a proven modular architecture with dual-channel FADEC technology, low direct maintenance costs and worldwide Safran support. Today it powers H225 helicopters performing offshore transport, search and rescue, military transport, firefighting and humanitarian operations across the globe.
Engine performance and reliability
Increased power for heavy-lift operations
Delivering 2,101 shp take-off power and 1,970 shp maximum continuous power, the Makila 2A1 provides the additional performance required for demanding transport, offshore and rescue missions where payload and operational flexibility are essential.
Dual-channel FADEC
Unlike the earlier Makila 1 generation, the Makila 2A1 features a dual-channel Full Authority Digital Engine Control (FADEC) system. Automatic engine management reduces pilot workload, optimises performance and contributes to improved operational safety throughout every phase of flight.
Built for modern H225 operations
The Makila 2A1 was developed specifically to meet the performance requirements of the Airbus H225 platform. The engine delivers excellent one-engine-inoperative (OEI) capability together with the reliability required for offshore transport, SAR, military and utility operations.
Proven reliability with low maintenance costs
With more than 12 million operating hours accumulated across the Makila family, the Makila 2A1 benefits from decades of operational experience. Its modular construction and optimised maintenance programme help reduce direct operating costs while maximising aircraft availability.
